Cross-country skiers, who like to practise their sport away from the masses in an unspoiled natural landscape, are in precisely the right place in the Wipptal holiday region with its side valleys. Hotspot is the Gschnitz valley with its traditional & skating cross-country skiing courses. Our plus: all trails are free of charge!
An ever increasing number of fantastic valley and mountain views can be enjoyed on the approx. 85 km cross-country skiing network covering all levels of difficulty. The guarantee of snow is primarily ensured in the higher side valleys, e.g. in the mountaineering village of Schmirn, as well as in the rear part of the Gschnitz and Obernberg Valleys from December until March. Our plus: All cross-country ski runs in the Wipptal region are completely free!
The cross-country paradise in the Gschnitz Valley
The trails in the mountaineering village have been distinguished with the Tyrolean cross-country quality seal because of the vastness, the scenically situated position and the good overall preparation. We have put together a folder here with details about the range of cross-country skiing opportunities in Gschnitz. Download of cross-country guide (pdf)
Renting equipment or taking a course
If you do not have any cross-country skiing equipment or would like to enrol in a course, then you will be able to find a good, affordable range for beginners and those more advanced in the Bergeralm ski school or Hansi ski school. Changing and WC facilities can be found in Trins at the Liftstüberl, in Gschnitz at the Gasthof Feuerstein, in Schmirn at the Gasthaus Olpererblick and in Obernberg at the Almis Berghotel.
Free ski bus with guest card
The complimentary ski bus will also bring you into all of the side valleys so there is no need to bring your car. Please don't forget your guest card! Note: not all parking is free!
“From your room straight onto the cross-country trail” – this is the motto by which the mentioned accommodation stands out in the Wipptal holiday region and its tributary valleys. The hosts declare themselves “Cross-Country Specialists” and offer facilities specially geared to their guests, the cross-country skiers: a ski depot or a drying room for cross-country equipment, for example, within close proximity to a cross-country ski run. In that way, no time is lost and the cost-free trails can be enjoyed to the fullest, without any stress or time constraints.
