EAT & DRINK
What would a vacation in Tyrol be without homemade cheese dumplings, a schnitzel from the pan or a plate of sweet-smelling Kaiserschmarrn? Unimaginable! In the Wipptal and its mountain valleys, many inns and hotels are still cooked by the landlord or landlady themselves. The result is the purest enjoyment of typical regional dishes made from selected, often local ingredients.
An enjoyable stop at an inn, a hut or a rustic mountain pasture is probably the highlight of a hike for many people. Even in the evening, after a day out in the fresh air, the typical regional delicacies taste twice as good. In Wipptal, you shouldn't miss out on trying a traditional roast onion or a "Tiroler Tris" - various types of dumplings and "Schlutzkrapfen" as a trio on a plate. Another specialty are the Kirchtag doughnuts with a sweet filling, which are mainly served at festivals in summer and are baked by hand by the farmers' wives. In addition to the traditional refreshment stops, there are also some good pizzerias in the region. No wonder, Italy is only a few minutes' drive from the Wipptal.
The members of the "Genussspechte Wipptal" association and the gourmet innkeepers, who cook the tender meat of the North Tyrolean Grey cattle bred in our region, place particular emphasis on local ingredients in their cuisine. If you want to take a piece of Wipptal home with you, you should stock up on regional specialties "to go" in one of the gourmet stores or farm stores so that you can keep the vacation enjoyment a little longer.
Please note, however, that the opening hours of the restaurants may change, so it is always advisable to book in advance.
