THE ZILLERATLER ALPS AND TUXER ALPS
The Zillertal Alps are a mountain range in the central Eastern Alps, spread across Tyrol, South Tyrol and Salzburg. They include the Schmirn and Vals valleys in the Wipptal. The striking peaks of Olperer (3,476 m) and Fußstein (3,380 m) form the imposing valley end of the two valleys. In the Tux Alps upstream - here lies Navistal - there are somewhat lower and gentler peaks - the highest mountain is the Lizumer Reckner (2,886 m).
The most famous mountains in the Tux Alps include the Lizumer Reckner (2,886 m), the Rastkogel (2,762 m) and the Patscherkofel (2,246 m). The Zillertal Alps are dominated by the 3,476 m high Olperer, whose glaciated peak is clearly visible from almost all valleys in the Wipptal.
The Navistal with the Naviser Kreuzjöchl and its beautiful alpine pasture circuit lies in the Tux Alps. The Schmirntal with the Hohe Warte and the Schöberspitzen forms the exact border between the Tux Alps and the Zillertal Alps.
The more southerly Valsertal already belongs to the Tux main ridge (Zilleratler Alps), which has a rather rugged and rocky mountain world compared to the Tux Alps.
