SKITOURS
A real insider tip among the ski touring regions
The North Tyrolean Wipptal with its pristine mountain valleys between the Alpine city of Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass is an insider tip for all ski tourers. From early winter until well into spring , the Wipptal is a true paradise for anyone looking for the tranquillity of nature and the challenge of ski touring.
The Tux and Zillertal Alps, which include the east-facing mountain valleys of Navis, Schmirn and Vals , offer a wide range of alpine ski touring options at various levels of difficulty.
The west-facing valleys of Gschnitztal and Obernberg in the Stubai Alps offer untracked slopes and a unique natural backdrop.
Sustainable and nature-friendly ski touring tourism has developed in the Obernbergtal in particular: Information brochures and boards indicate the protected areas where, for example, the black grouse and capercaillie should remain undisturbed.
Safety on the mountain is a top priority in the Wipptal ski touring region. As part of the "Kompetenzzentrum tyrol.alpin" project, 15 checkpoints, known as avalanche transceiver checkpoints, have been set up at various critical starting points. In the mountaineering village of Schmirn, an avalanche transceiver park has been set up in the Toldern district, where you can practise searching for buried victims with an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel.
Please always ask the avalanche warning service in advance about the current avalanche level in the respective area. We also recommend that inexperienced ski tourers are accompanied by a ski tour guide.
