Moors, people and a place of power that connects -

A conference at the Waldrast Nature Resort

The Waldrast Nature Resort with the Maria Waldrast monastery is much more than just an event venue. One of the highest monasteries in Europe sits enthroned at 1,638 meters, nestled in the gentle yet powerful nature at the foot of the Serles. It was precisely this special location that was deliberately chosen for the "3 KEMs 1 destination" event. The conference started with a hike in the Stubai Valley and led along unique moorland landscapes and typical vegetation. Accompanied by short specialist presentations, the participants were given on-site insights into one of the central topics of the day: moors as silent climate protectors. Experts impressively demonstrated how important their protection and renaturation is for the ecological balance - using the example of the project in Hirschlacke.

In a short interview, one of the co-organizers - the KEM manager of the Wipptal Claudia Hackhofer - tells us about her experiences with the Waldrast Natur Resort as an event location.

"A place of power for head and heart"
Interview with Claudia Hackhofer about the "3 KEMs 1 goal" event at Maria Waldrast

TVB Wipptal: Claudia, you were co-organizer of the event "3 KEMs 1 goal - active climate protection in the municipalities". Why did you choose Maria Waldrast as the venue?

Claudia Hackhofer: Maria Waldrast is not just a location, it is a place with history and an extraordinary atmosphere. For our event - a moorland hike followed by specialist lectures and a final lunch - the nature retreat was an ideal place thanks to its ideal location and all-round event offer.

TVB Wipptal: The event began with a hike - what was the idea behind it?

Claudia Hackhofer: We didn't just want to inform the participants, we also wanted them to feel what we are all about. The hike took us through sensitive moorland landscapes and unique vegetation - habitats that are important for climate protection but often receive little attention. With every step, the connection between nature and climate protection became more tangible. This walking experience left us with many more impressions.

TVB Wipptal: How did the participants experience the day in Maria Waldrast?

Claudia Hackhofer: The feedback was very positive across the board. The lectures in the historic conference room were surrounded by a very special atmosphere. The concluding lunch in the monastery restaurant and the attentive service also made our conference a very special experience.

TVB Wipptal: What do you think makes Maria Waldrast a special event location?

Claudia Hackhofer: The combination is unique: a place of pilgrimage steeped in history with monastic tranquillity, surrounded by untouched nature, and at the same time professionally equipped rooms for events. Those who meet here do so with a different awareness. This encourages new ways of thinking, openness and depth - a real added value, especially when it comes to topics such as sustainability or transformation.

TVB Wipptal: Will there be more events at this location?

Claudia Hackhofer: I am convinced of that. Maria Waldrast has great potential as a venue for sustainable events - whether for communities, companies or educational institutions. We have felt how much inspiration this place provides. I look forward to many more formats up here, where nature, knowledge and meaningfulness come together.

TVB Wipptal: In our conversation, terms such as sustainability and meaning kept coming up - two topics that also fit very well with the concept of green events. Have you already gained experience in this context?

Claudia Hackhofer: Yes, we actually held this event as a basic green event. We made a conscious decision to adhere to the required criteria for the catering, for example. It was no problem at all to arrange the lunch and coffee break accordingly. On the contrary: the interest and openness of the participants was great. It showed that sustainable event formats are not only feasible, but also welcome.

TVB Wipptal: Dear Claudia, thank you for the interview - and for your commitment to our region!
