Alpine pasture and mountain meadow care

Hast du schon mal im Urlaub gearbeitet? Hoch oben auf  2.000 Metern mit einem atemberaubenden Panoramablick und einer herzhaften Bauernjause als Belohnung? Wir nennen das „Land und Leute kennen lernen“. 

Es gibt viele Gründe, warum uns die Berge so magisch anziehen: das Gefühl von Freiheit, wenn der Blick in die Ferne schweift. Der Duft von Heu auf der Alm. Der Geschmack frischer Milch und selbstgemachter Butter. Die Ruhe, die unter die Haut geht. Und manchmal begegnet uns ein Bergbauer, der mit der Sense das Gras mäht und wir fragen uns: Wie ist das wohl, das Leben hier oben? Wie viel Arbeit steckt dahinter, dass unsere Landschaft so wunderschön bleibt?

Komm zu uns ins Wipptal und finde es heraus.
An zwei Tagen deines Urlaubs kannst du Seite an Seite mit unseren Bergbauern arbeiten. Du hilfst mit, die Bergmähder offen zu halten, damit Orchideen, Kräuter und typische Alpenblumen weiter blühen. Du unterstützt bei der Pflege der Almen, damit Kühe genug Futter finden und lernst dabei, was es bedeutet, mit der Natur im Einklang zu leben. Mitten in dieser einzigartigen Bergkulisse erzählt dir der Schutzgebietsbetreuer spannende Geschichten über Tiere, Pflanzen und das Leben hier oben Geschichten, die du so schnell nicht vergessen wirst.

Was heißt das für dich? Körperliche Arbeit, Schweißperlen und den einen oder anderen Muskelkater. Aber das alles verblasst, wenn du am Ende auf dein Werk blickst mit einem Lächeln, das direkt aus dem Herzen kommt. Denn dann spürst du, was echte Arbeit in der Natur mit einem macht: sie erdet, sie erfüllt und sie schenkt dir ein Stück Heimatgefühl.

The traditional, species-rich cultural landscape, such as alpine pastures, mountain meadows and larch meadows, is home to many protected plants and animals. Using them has contributed to food security in Tyrol for centuries. Our project helps farmers to preserve this cultural landscape. 

Our project brings together agriculture, tourism and nature conservation. We cooperate with the "Schule der Alm" association, the ÖAV mountaineering villages project and the Wipptal volunteer center.

In 2022, 360 hours of work were completed, 13 transfers were ordered from regional companies, 42 snack packages made from regional products were consumed and overnight stays were booked for the participants in the Wipptal.  

On October 17, 2025, a very special anniversary was celebrated at Gasthof Olpererblick in Schmirn: The board, Alpine pasture teachers and supporters of the School of the Alpine Pasture looked back on the tenth "school year". Over 650 participants have completed the courses over the past ten years and found a lot of meaning and community here - and two even found a partner for life.

Cancellation conditions:
up to 6 weeks before arrival: €50 per person cancellation fee
6 to 2 weeks before arrival: 30% cancellation fee
from 2 weeks before arrival: 50% cancellation fee.
