HALL IN TIROL
For the Celts, the word Hall meant salt and comes from the Greek. A good indication of how Hall in Tirol gained its town charter and the associated prosperity - the mining of salt.
From the Middle Ages until 1967, the "white gold" was mined north of the town in the Halltal valley. Today, in addition to the name, the former salt warehouse, which has since been converted into an event hall, is a reminder of the town's history.
The resulting prosperity also made it possible to mint coins in Hall.
For visitors to the Hasegg Castle Coin Museum, this is still possible today as a highlight of the museum visit. The striking coin tower - Hall's landmark - is of course also worth a visit after the museum tour.
In addition to museums, Hall in Tirol also offers a beautiful medieval old town with many opportunities for shopping, culinary delights and other historical highlights. For the more refined palate, you can dine at the Gasthof Goldener Engel, directly on the lower town square, or head to the Ritterkuchl zu Hall and experience a meal like in the Middle Ages, including a chivalrous show program.
