This hiking week is perfect for mountain lovers, those who appreciate the finer things in life, and anyone who wants to experience authentic alpine life—to take a deep breath, marvel at the scenery, and come back again.
The Alpine Pasture Adventure Hiking Week takes you deep into the Wipptal—a region that remains shaped to this day by mountain farmers, alpine pastures, and the tradition of artisanal cheese-making. At a leisurely and enjoyable pace, you’ll make your way from pasture to pasture, through quiet valleys and across fragrant mountain meadows. The result is a vacation that connects you with the landscape, the culture, and the people who nurture it.
A special focus is placed on milk processing during the alpine summer: from delicate fresh goat cheese to the traditional tapping of the first matured alpine cheese. This allows you to immerse yourself directly in the work of the dairymaids and dairymen and learn how this alpine cultural landscape comes to life through taste.
Every day brings new experiences—encounters with the people behind the products, the tranquility of the mountains, the scent of freshly mown hay, and the taste of authentic alpine products. The journey concludes with a leisurely herb walk through Obernberg’s “Valley of Tranquility,” offering a harmonious blend of natural beauty and mindfulness.

- Basic fitness level required for leisurely mountain hikes on well-maintained trails (up to about 10 km and 500 m elevation gain)

The program at a glance
Day 1: Individual travel and arrival in the Obernberg Valley
Travel by train (Innsbruck is easily accessible by long-distance trains. From there, or from Brenner, use the Wipptal Card for free S-Bahn and bus connections) or by car to Obernberg. In the evening, meet your mountain guide and enjoy dinner together.
Days 2–5: Alpine pastures and valleys—authentic encounters and moments of indulgence
Helga’s Alpine Pasture – “Alpine Pasture of Mindfulness”
Dairymaid Helga’s Nockeralm is regarded as a sanctuary for both people and animals. Here, fresh goat cheese is crafted with French finesse, while the “Alpine School” actively shares knowledge about alpine farming and mountain haymaking. A place where tradition fosters awareness.
Sattelbergalm – “A Delightful Alpine Pasture with Heart”
At the Sattelbergalm, the Nagele family combines genuine hospitality with regional cuisine. Under the motto “Eating with Feeling,” down-to-earth dishes are created from local ingredients—with artisanal care and a great deal of finesse.
Navistal – the “Valley of the Alms”
The Navistal delights with unspoiled nature, rich alpine flora, and an unusually high density of active alpine pastures. The Navis Alpine Pasture Loop offers an enjoyable hike where each alpine pasture showcases its own specialties and scenic viewpoints.
Steiner Alm – “Alpine Pasture of the Master’s Hand”
A highlight is a visit to the Steiner Alm, run by the Almberger family, from your accommodation at Almi’s Berghotel. Son Thomas processes the milk from the happy alpine cows here into excellent alpine cheese, yogurt, and butter. Thomas has already won silver and gold medals for these products at the International Alpine Cheese Olympics in Galtür.
Nestled in the impressive Tribulaun mountain range and near Lake Obernberg, you can experience artisanal cheese-making firsthand here!
