Winter hiking trails in the Wipptal vacation region
Our region with the beautiful mountain valleys south of Innsbruck and in front of the Brenner Pass is certainly an insider tip for hiking in the snow. The approx. 70 km of winter hiking trails are specially marked - some of them are premium winter hiking trails, which are signposted with pink signs. All paths are cleared and well maintained, making them easily accessible. Only the premium winter hiking trails are closed in case of danger (ice), all others are at your own risk. As your safety is important to us, you can hire hiking poles and walking sticks free of charge (deposit € 40) from the information offices in Steinach and Matrei. This means that even icy sections are no problem. Sometimes the winter hiking trails overlap with toboggan runs, where the hike can be combined with a toboggan run .
Warming up included
Of course, a stop at a rustic hut with a hot mulled wine or tea to warm up is a must on a winter walk. That's why almost all of the suggested winter hiking trails have a refreshment stop either at the beginning or the end.
