Multi-pitch Climbing Course

This course is specifically designed for those who want to learn the rope techniques and tips for independent multi-pitch climbing in a relaxed atmosphere.

A typical “climbing career” begins in an indoor climbing gym, and before long, climbers are tackling well-secured outdoor climbing areas. The next step involves multi-pitch climbs, where climbers ascend longer walls as a rope team.
The program is tailored individually to each participant, taking into account their prior experience, available equipment, and goals.

In the mountaineering village of St. Jodok, several routes have been set up specifically for this purpose to help participants transition from climbing walls to long routes. The focus is on targeted and practical instruction. In addition to basic rope techniques, topics such as strategy and route planning are also covered.

Requirements for your participation

This course requires experience in indoor climbing gyms and outdoor climbing areas. Participants must be proficient in belaying techniques for single-pitch routes.

Equipment

Sport climbing gear. Any missing safety equipment (e.g., descender) will be provided by the course instructors. We strive to ensure that our course participants have the right gear for them and do not want to create a situation where everyone is racing to buy the latest gear. Our philosophy is: Simply bring your own gear to the course; any missing items will be provided by the course instructors during the course, and by the end of the course, all participants will have a personalized, tailored shopping list for their next shopping trip.

The program at a glance

Day 1 – Saturday: Individual travel to the mountaineering village of St. Jodok

    • Welcome
    • Equipment check right at the meeting point before we set off
    • Access to the MITTE climbing area on the Stafflacher Wand. This is the perfect training site for the first day of the course
    • Rope techniques, safety techniques, rappelling
    • Practice, practice, practice—and, of course, lots of climbing


Day 2: Sunday – Course activities and individual return home

    • Access to the "Höhenfieber" route on the Stafflacher Wand
    • Climbing this 11-pitch route
    • Specific topics that arise during the course
    • Rappelling
    • Final meeting
