My first hut tour self-guided

For hiking fans planning a multi-day hut tour for the first time

Want to aim high but don’t have any experience with multi-day hut-to-hut hikes? Then this package is the perfect introduction to mountaineering for you. Step by step, without the stress—but with plenty of nature, panoramic views, and the charm of mountain huts.

Two cozy huts high above the Gschnitztal valley await you—connected by two varied day stages that you can tailor entirely to the weather, your fitness level, and your mood. Perfect, then, if you’re looking to get a taste of hut life for the first time.
You hike leisurely along the standard trail, find your own rhythm, and finally have time to let your gaze wander, take a deep breath, and let the mountains work their magic.
Or you can set your own personal goal: On the route between the two huts, you can tackle four impressive peaks in the heart of the Stubai Alps—each one a small sense of accomplishment in itself.
No matter what you decide: This tour combines freedom, the enjoyment of nature, and exactly as much of a challenge as you feel up to.

Ideal for you if you:

  • if you want to plan your first hut-to-hut hike
  • prefer to start off comfortably and ease into the adventure
  • If you're looking for a real mountain experience—without having to be an extreme mountaineer

  • Enjoy cozy cabins

The program at a glance

Day 1: Individual travel to Tyrol
Travel to Trins in Tyrol. We recommend taking public transportation by train (the S-Bahn from Innsbruck is included in your Wipptal Card; please let us know in advance so we can issue a travel voucher) to Steinach. From the train station, take bus 4146 to Trins (Gemeindeamt stop), then walk 500 meters to the hotel. You can find information on public transportation online at www.vvt.at
Dinner and overnight stay at your ***hotel in Trins

Day 2: Trins to Blaserhütte
Walking time: approx. 3 hours, distance: 4 km, 950 m ↑
After breakfast, hike from your hotel in Trins along the signs Blaserhütte 30/31 northwards across a meadow up to a signposted junction. There turn right along a cart path on path no. 30 through the Bannwald forest to the Adlerblick junction (short detour of about 10 minutes there and back recommended).
At the bench, follow the sign for Blaser (paths no. 30 and 11), alternately through the forest and across small clearings, crossing a forest road twice, up to the tree line, which you reach a few meters after a small hut. Continue ascending, over beautiful mountain meadows with some hay barns to the forest path of the Blaserhütte. Follow the forest path to the Blaserhütte or take a shortcut through trail no. 13 until you finally arrive at your destination. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view in all directions.
Insider tip for summiteers: If you still have some strength in your legs, hike up to the Blaser, the local mountain of your hut (additional 65 meters in altitude in the ascent and descent)
Overnight stay in the camp at the Blaserhütte.

Day 3: Blaserhütte to Padasterjochhaus - normal route
Walking time: 4 hours, distance: 9 km, 720 m ↑, 680 m ↓
Enjoy your breakfast at the cabin. Insider Tip: Leave your luggage at the hut and hike up the local mountain, the Blaser (additional 65 meters in altitude in the ascent and descent), if you have not been there the day before.
With your luggage, you then hike downhill through the Zwieselmähder on trail no. 524. The typical "mountain mowers" of the Blaser, which present themselves in early summer in a sea of alpine flowers, and the magnificent view of the valley will inspire you. Take plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. At the fork in the road, follow path no. 577 in the direction of Padasterjochhaus. Below the hut you can decide whether you want to continue on the forest road or the Herrenweg (no. 122) to your accommodation at 2,232 m. A wonderful sun terrace invites you to a cosy end to the day's hiking.
Overnight stay in the camp at the Padasterjochhaus.

Day 3 - Blaserhütte to Padasterjochhaus - Summit Trail
Walking time: 6 hours, distance: 9 km, 890 m ↑, 800 m ↓
Enjoy your breakfast at the cabin. Well fortified, you first hike from the Blaserhütte down the hilltop, then follow trail no. 13 along the ridge up to the Peilspitze at 2,392 m. The cross of your first summit is located directly on the path, which then leads over a rope-secured section and then over steep, sandy terrain (attention, in early summer there are still residual snow fields on the north side, please ask the hut keeper) northwest to the Kalbenjoch. From the Kalbenjoch you follow trail no. 8 to the Kesselspitze at 2,728 m. The extremely panoramic trail leads with short rope-secured passages over stony terrain finally to the summit cross. Stay on the "Gschnitztaler Hüttenrunde" markings and hike over the ridge with great views past the Rote Kopf and on towards the Wasenwand and Padasterjochhaus (attention: in some places the path is sandy and slippery, please be careful). You finally reach the hill behind the hut, which is embedded in a basin with mountain meadows and rocks. If you're not too exhausted yet, it's worth taking a detour to the Wasenwand or the Foppmandl. Then tackle the final descent via serpentines to your accommodation at 2,232 m. A wonderful sun terrace invites you to a cosy end to the hiking day.
Overnight stay in the camp at the Padasterjochhaus.

Day 4: Padasterjochhaus to Trins
Walking time: 2 hours, distance: 5.5 km, 1,000 m ↓
Before you make your way down into the valley, there are two nice ways to extend the tour a bit: follow the path to the Padasterkogel behind the hut (approx. 25 minutes on foot and 75 m elevation gain each way). Alternatively, you can also follow the signs to the Hammerspitze (black mountain path, surefootedness required). Hike over steep hairpin bends to the Hammerscharte and over a small upswing to the summit (approx. 1 hour walking time and 400 m elevation gain each way). Back at the Padasterjochhaus, you descend via the Herrensteig (no. 122) or via the road to Trins. The path winds its way into the valley in numerous serpentines, past imposing rock faces, beautiful mountain meadows and finally through the forest. At the upper outskirts of Trins you walk along the road down to the village to your hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay at your *** hotel in Trins

General information about spending the night in huts:

  • Mobile phone reception can be very limited in the mountains (it's best to just switch off your mobile phone and only use it in an emergency)
  • There is not always internet/Wi-Fi in the huts
  • Charging options are limited, so please remember to bring a spare battery or a small solar device for your mobile phone
  • Take cash with you, as card payment is not possible in many huts
  • Energy resources are often very limited, so please save electricity and water
  • There is a strict ban on smoking in the huts, please use the ashtrays outdoors
  • From 22:00 there is hut peace (until then cozy get-together with other guests:-))

General information about luggage:

The ultimate motto is to take only the essentials with you, without giving up the safety equipment (such as a first aid kit and a bivouac bag) and clothing for all weathers. In the Alps, you have to carry your luggage over long distances and during strenuous ascents and descents. A backpack that is too heavy can quickly spoil the fun of the tour. You will receive a recommendation for your packing list from us before your tour.
