The scent of herbs meets mountaineering village

Experience the power of nature and herbs in the mountains

More and more people are seeking the peace and power of nature in their free time - they go to the mountains to let go, recharge their batteries and ground themselves. Some feel a special energy there, begin to trust the laws of nature and focus more on the natural course of the year.

In our herbal course, we would like to invite you to delve deeper into this power of nature. We will teach you ancient knowledge about herbs, familiarize you with their healing powers and show you how versatile and tasty they can be.

The starting point for our three-day course is the Alpine flower garden in Schmirn - a true paradise that is lovingly tended and maintained by 18 dedicated sponsors.

Herbs in the sign of the seasons

Depending on the season, we encounter very different plants in nature: After a long winter, invigorating and nourishing herbs sprout, now the focus is on gathering delicate leaves and fragrant flowers.
In the fall, on the other hand, we find more vigorous plants: Leaves and roots, which accompany and strengthen us through the cold season with their concentrated energy.

How herbs become an alpine beverage specialty in our region:

For the 2026 herbal courses, we once again have a very special highlight on the program: a tasting of products from Eagles Mountain Distillery, which has developed unique recipes using pure mountain spring water, alpine medicinal herbs, and berries.
The distillery’s founding family is dedicated to the responsible production of alpine specialty beverages—both alcoholic and, intentionally, non-alcoholic. Evocative names like Alperitivo, Alperitif Maritim (voted No. 1 Aperitif Bitter by Falstaff in 2024), Alpine Tonic, Lärchen Tonic, and Glow Gin have since found their way to us here in the Wipptal, and we’re quite proud of that.
We’re very excited to be able to show and explain to you, in our Alpine flower garden, a small selection of the Alpine herbs that form the basis of this high-quality Alpine brand. During a short hike with your host Kati, you’ll discover some of the beverage ingredients in their natural habitat and hear a few village stories along the way.

The program at a glance

Tuesday: Arrival and Welcome
Arrival: Take the train to Innsbruck or the Brenner Pass (easily accessible via long-distance trains); from there, use the Wipptal Card for free S-Bahn and bus connections, or drive to Schmirn.
You’ll meet your like-minded herbal classmates at Gasthof Olpererblick in Schmirn for a welcome evening featuring an aperitif from Eagles Mountain Distillery and a regional dinner. Herbal educator Elli will discuss the course content for the coming days.

Wednesday - Friday: 3 course days in the Alpine flower garden
3 days of intensive herbal course and working in our alpine flower garden - you will get to know the herbs that grow here. The special thing about this course is that you get to work in our herb workshop to prepare a tasty lunch from the herbs. Of course, there is plenty of time to learn about the healing powers of herbs and their uses (depending on the weather, the course program is flexible. For more elaborate preparation of e.g. ointments, a small material contribution can be added on site).
You can also look forward to the afternoons: after a short hike with hostess Kati, Hany awaits you with her "Alpine and regional cuisine" cooking course. The program also includes Kneipp therapy in the Alpine flower garden and - of course, no herbal course is complete without it - making liqueurs with Sepp.
