The program at a glance 

Day 1: Arrival in
Travel by train (Innsbruck is easily accessible by long-distance trains. From there, or from Brenner, free S-Bahn connections are available with the Wipptal Card) or by car to Matrei am Brenner. In the evening, a welcome from host Florian.

Day 2: Gentle start
After the transfer to Mieders in the Stubai Valley (approx. 15 minutes), a relaxed start to the touring week awaits you. The first stage of the day leads from Mieders to Maria Waldrast. The monastery is not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the oldest and, at 1,638 m, highest places of pilgrimage in the Alps. Alpine hospitality meets breathtaking mountain and natural scenery here, right at the transition from the Stubai Valley to the Wipp Valley. After a lunch break on the sun terrace, you descend to Mühlbachl in the Wipptal valley and walk the last few meters to the hotel.

Day 3: Crossing the Kalbenjoch
After a 10-minute transfer, you start your second stage at the Ochsenalm, just below Maria Waldrast. At first gently, then a little steeper, you march in a south-westerly direction until you find yourself in the Matreier Grube. Finally, keep left until you reach the Kalbenjoch at 2,225 m. Magnificent views down into the Gschnitztal valley and the Tux Alps await you, with the tribunes lining the horizon like a string of pearls. You ski down the beautiful ski slopes around the Falschwernalm to the mountaineering village of Trins. After a few meters you reach the bus stop and continue via Steinach to Matrei.

Day 4: Perfect panoramic summit Egger Berg
Take public transport to Trins to the start of your stage. Today is the first time you exceed 1000 meters in altitude on the ascent. You gain altitude at a leisurely pace towards the Trunahütte on secluded paths. After a short steep section, you reach the Egger Joch and, in a wide arc, your summit, the Egger Berg. Here you can look back on your first two stages and look ahead to your next tours. Through undulating terrain, sparse forest and across meadows, you take your descent down to Gries am Brenner. After a short walk, you reach the S-Bahn station and return to your hotel in Matrei.

Day 5: Your route between Austria and Italy
S-Bahn and bus take you to Obernberg. Through the Fradertal valley, you gain altitude along rustic alpine pastures until you climb up to the Flachjoch at the end of the valley. From here, you follow the old border paths between North Tyrol and South Tyrol. You can choose whether to include one or two peaks on the way to the Sattelberg or follow the Brenner border ridge to conserve your energy. The summit of the Sattelberg lies right on the border between Austria and Italy. Before you swing down to today's destination, the Sattelbergalm, you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Zillertal and Stubai Alps, and with a bit of luck you might even spot one or two Dolomite peaks.

Day 6: Finale and journey home
For your last stage, you get up again in the morning and set off directly from the alpine pasture up to the Sattelberg, which you already know from the previous day. Instead of following the many ascent tracks of the former ski slope, you follow the Jubiläumssteig trail, which initially leads you through the forest and then up over more open terrain. You cross the summit and head towards the area around the Eisack spring. Here you are sure to find plenty of untracked slopes, and then your skills and orientation will be required in the increasingly dense forest. The last section down to the Brenner Pass is covered on foot via a path.

Tip for connoisseurs: If you decide to end the Wipp Traverse in a relaxed manner, after a hearty breakfast you can descend from the Sattelbergalm via the former piste directly down to Gries and start your journey home or your individual extension from here.
