The hut 1x1
The most important tips for your overnight stay in a hut....
On a sunny day in early June 2022, I accompanied our hard-working trail rangers Stefan and Marco on the stage of our Gschnitztal hut tour from the Tribulaunhütte to the Bremer Hütte. At the Bremer Hütte, we were greeted by a cool beer and Anna, a new member of the hut team. Curious, I was keen to find out how it came about that a young person from faraway Thuringia would leave everything at home to work at a hut for a whole summer.

"I had originally planned the Stubai High Trail in 2020 and always had my eye on the Bremer Hütte. The tour had to be canceled due to too much snow. I started a new attempt in the summer of 2021 and finally got to know the Bremer Hütte on a day tour from the Gschnitztal valley. When it came to paying, the hut owner Christian asked me out of the blue if I would like to stay and settle my bill. I was so perplexed that the only answer I could come up with was: "But I haven't got a toothbrush with me". This problem was quickly solved, a quick call to the valley to say that I would stay away overnight and off I went. I ended up staying for three days before descending back into the valley. I think I had already lost my heart to the hut at that point.
When hut manager Christian called me in January 2022 and asked if I would like to work at the hut for the whole summer, I was once again quite surprised.
I had just started a new job and had an apartment, family and friends in Germany. So I declined at the time. As a result, I dreamt about the hut every night for two weeks. At some point, I switched off my mind, quit my job, picked up the phone, just followed my instincts and said yes to Christian."
Anna lets her gaze wander over the hut and the incredible mountain scenery: "I've been looking forward to the summer for months. I was unsure because I didn't really know what to expect. But what can I say - this is my home. I wake up every morning and know that I've done everything right. This is the summer of my life."
"No. We work a lot. Of course, there are situations that aren't so nice. Sometimes it's really hectic. But no, I've never regretted my decision."
"I was welcomed into the Höllrigl hut family from the very first moment. It's not just the hut, but the people who make this place extraordinary every day. A working relationship quickly turned into a real friendship.
We get to know people differently up here than down in the valley. It doesn't matter where someone comes from or where someone is going. We get to know each other here without any prejudices and we all share a passion for nature and the mountains. Maybe it would do us good if we all took some of that back to the valley."
Anna moved from Thuringia to our beautiful Wipptal at the end of 2023. Many people from the valley helped her find an apartment in Navis. In the meantime, Anna is already looking forward to her 3rd summer in a hut.
