Golden fall in Schmirn

A day in the mountains is a good day - especially when nature is resplendent in the beautiful colors of autumn. We're in the mood for another mountain tour, so we pick up the Wipptal hiking guide and get inspired. After a short search, we choose a tempting ridge hike in the unspoilt Schmirntal valley, which promises three summit conquests.

Our starting point is a small parking lot at the "Marterl" on the Schmirner Landesstraße near Muchnersiedlung. We start our mountain tour with the ascent through the spruce and larch forest to the Lorlesalm (note: not managed) and realize - it is a pleasure for all the senses. The autumn-colored larches glow in the morning sun, the air is refreshing and the peace and quiet is a true rest for body and soul. We gradually climb around 1,150 meters in altitude and reach our first destination: the Ottenspitze (2,175 m). The last few meters to the summit are a little steep on the south-western side, so I decide to climb north-west. Here, on the first elevation between the Valser and Schmirn valleys, we are rewarded with a breathtaking panorama. We enjoy our first snack break and let our gaze wander over the Wipptal valley as far as Innsbruck.

Strengthened and motivated, we continue our tour. The path along the ridge repeatedly opens up fantastic views over the Stubai and Tux Alps. After a good two kilometers along the border ridge, we reach our next stage destination, the Riepenspitze (2460 m), and soon afterwards our last summit of the day, the Gammerspitze (2537 m). There is a beautiful summit cross there, which was erected by the Jungbauernschaft/Landjugend Vals. The view from up here is simply overwhelming - endless mountains... From the Nordkette to the Dolomites, summit after summit.

My personal highlight of this hike is the impressive view of the Olperer, which towers majestically over the Wipptal valley. Its snow-covered peak towers into the azure blue autumn sky and forms a perfect contrast to the golden larch forests in the valley. The entire tour offers a harmonious mix of challenging climbs and leisurely hiking passages that will delight nature lovers of all levels. So, pack your rucksack and off you go to Schmirntal!
