Hiking with a baby carriage

Out and about in the fresh air with the little ones

"Out into the fresh air", we thought to ourselves when our little one woke up from her nap one afternoon in June. But where to go? With a baby carriage, it is of course important that the terrain is not too rough or steep. It's also important for us to spend the afternoon undisturbed in nature away from the crowds. We therefore opted for the meadow path into the Gschnitztal valley. 

The meadow trail into the Gschnitztal valley leads from Steinach to Trins, along the Gschnitzbach stream. The easy hike starts at the parking lot of the Bergeralm valley station, from where we walked along a paved road past meadows with rustic "Stadln". We could really feel the fresh air in the valley and our daughter Amalia looked curiously out of the baby carriage. Always accompanied by the pleasant murmur of the Gschnitzbach stream, numerous seating areas invite you to linger and picnic. Always to marvel at: the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Gschnitz Valley!

After about two hours - pure walking time approx. 40 minutes - we reached the wooden bridge over the Gschnitzbach, where a forest path on the other side of the valley leads back to Steinach. However, as it was a glorious early summer's day, we decided without further ado to walk further into the valley to the "Liftstüberl" in Trins. There we enjoyed a coffee on the sun terrace with the little one on our laps and watched the other children at the small playground right next to it. It wouldn't be long before our Amalia would be romping around there too.

After enjoying our refreshments on the terrace, we walked back to the bridge and along the forest path to Steinach. A short break on the bench next to the drinking water spring was a must - the cool water from the spring is incredibly refreshing. A wide variety of flowers and herbs can be admired from the path and, of course, we didn't want to miss out on one or two nibbles from the raspberry bushes. The small pond on the right-hand side of the path a little further towards Steinach was once again full of tadpoles, water striders and dragonflies buzzing around. There was plenty for the little ones to marvel at and see.

On the right-hand side above the now somewhat steeper forest path just before Steinach is the "Herrenwasserl": a small paved pool filled with crystal-clear, fresh spring water is perfect for a dip - especially on warm summer days! The entire loop takes around 1.5 hours and is highly recommended, as the climbs are limited, there are plenty of places to sit and you immediately find yourself away from the hustle and bustle, in the middle of an idyllic natural landscape.

• Hike along the Alpine flower trail with a visit to the Alpine flower garden in Schmirn
• The Kasern neighborhood in Schmin, where you can take a break at the Alpengasthof Kasern
• Hike along the bike path from Steinach to Matrei, with a chance to take a break at the Tenniscafe in Steinach
• Hike to the Peeralm in Navis 
• Hike to Lake Obernberg
