Hike to the Gerichtsherrnalm

This traditional alpine hut, at an altitude of 1,663m not far from the Bergeralm in Steinach, always brings back fond childhood memories for me. It was and is a perfect excursion destination for families with small children, but is also ideal as a rest or stopover for alpine hikers, mountain bikers or e-bikers. What makes the Gerichtsherrnalm a special excursion destination in my eyes? The traditional alpine hut is authentic and simple - just like it was back then. You also have a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains of the Stubai Alps.

For the children, the excursion begins with an exciting gondola ride from the Bergeralmbahn valley station up to the middle station. The spacious gondolas can easily accommodate our baby carriage. Once at the top, we first hike to the right towards Bärenbachl. Admittedly, this small part of the trail requires a little patience, as the children are magically attracted to the various stations of the Bärenbachl water and adventure world. We then follow the signs to the Gerichtsherrnalm. Now we continue along a leisurely forest path in the shade with a minimal incline. We are always accompanied by a fantastic view of the Gschnitztal valley, where the mountaineering villages of Trins and Gschnitz are nestled.
In addition to the beautiful view, we are delighted to find countless wild strawberries and raspberries to the left and right of the path. Collecting the fruits of the forest extends our walk to just over an hour, but the mountain hut can normally be reached in around 45 minutes from the Bergeralm.

The small area around the Gerichtsherrnalm offers space to romp around and plenty of seating. Children will find little water games at the stream running through. A small fountain filled with crates of drinks supplies arriving bikers and hikers even when the hut is closed.

The history of the Gerichtsherrnalm goes back a long way. Old documents tell of the former "Stolzenalpe", which had been farmed for centuries. It was not until around 1900 that the name "Gerichtsherrnalm" was coined, as the owner at the time was the wife of the head of the court in Steinach. In 1918, Mr. Josef Vötter acquired this alp, which has been owned by the family ever since. At the beginning of the 1970s, the old alpine pasture building was demolished and a new hut was built.
